Summer is already upon us and for those of us who haven’t been as disciplined on eating right and working out since January, it’s too late to get that summer bod… Or is It!?!?
Your miracle worker is here… The Ultimate Green Smoothie! HaHa just kidding! You still need to workout and eat right the majority of the time. Nah But seriously the green smoothie can be just the catalyst you need to get you back on the right track. And you’re in Luck! I’m going to share with you the recipe I use to make your green smoothie the best tasting, most satisfying, nutritious superfuel to get that summer bod or help you reach whatever your overall goal is. (Recipe is at the end if you don’t want to read the story)
For most people, just the thought of drinking something that is green, full of leaves & veggies, and is super healthy can be repulsive and cannot taste good at all. I KNOW… cuz I’m one of them. I’ve been in the fitness industry for a long time and I’ve tasted and sampled my fair share of them and haven’t found one that I would use for a long time let alone finish drinking a full glass.
Well at the beginning of this year I was influenced (more like forced…haha) to do this 3 week detox diet plan (by Green Smoothie Girl). Now I have never done a detox diet before but I was intrigued with this one because the plan incorporated eating real foods & gave a meal plan that changed every few days or so (Not one of those starve for 3 days and drink nothing but lemon juice types). I’m not going to lie, it was tough to do & wasn't satisfying because you can’t eat meat at all for 3 weeks or drink alcohol (and I’m a meat eater to the bone & I LOVE my Beer). It was pretty much all rabbit food (vegetarian diet) and HELL. The only thing that got me through it was… The Green Smoothie! And I happened to stumble upon it to make it what I use now.
Their recipe was tolerable to me. But it was still like drinking a sweetened salad. But the thing that intrigued me about it & made it tolerable was that they used a plant based protein powder in it and added healthy fats to it like flax & chia seeds. Which made it not only taste ok, but satisfied my hunger for a couple of hours. Most of the ones I had before were mainly just juices or blends of fruits & vegetables & they never satisfied me. So not even a week of going through Hell I knew I wasn’t going to be able to complete the whole 3 weeks if I couldn’t find something I enjoyed. So I cheated a little, piggybacking off of their recipe. If they were already using a plant based protein powder, well then I’m going to add in my Whey protein powder. Then Voila’…. The miracle Green Smoothie was made!
It got me through those 3 weeks of Hell pretty much no problem. I was drinking at least 3 of them a day along with the allowed foods. In those 3 weeks I lost a total of 19 pounds. (After really enjoying the holidays I got up to 185lbs and dropped to 166) What made it easier to go through it, was that they tasted great, very satisfying (would last 4-6 hours or till next meal), feeling a ton better, and seeing the weight just dropping off also keeps the motivation going. Now everybody is different and I don’t expect everyone to get the same results as me, but like I said before, it is a great catalyst to get you on track to reaching your goals.
Now I’m back up to my usual 170ish weight but to this day I still drink a Green Smoothie at least once sometimes twice a day. And it will continue to be a staple in my diet for the rest of my life. And now that summer is here, I think it’s time to buckle down on the diet again and the Green Smoothie is going to lead the way!
Here is My Recipe. Hope you Enjoy! – BZ
1st thing first – Get a good blender
Recipe: The Green Smoothie
Calories: 435 calories
2 cups of cold water (add few ice cubes) DO NOT USE a lot of ice
or drink warm
1 scoop of Whey protein powder (HIGHLY recommend using the one pictured) Chocolate
1 scoop of Pea protein powder (HIGHLY recommend using the one pictured) Chocolate
2 tablespoon Flax seeds
1 tablespoon Chia seeds
Giant handful of Greens
Blend for at least 1 minute
(Can add splash of lemon juice or berries for additional flavor)
HIGHLY recommend using the protein powders pictured for the taste alone. The seeds and Greens I highly recommend organic & non-gmo.
Almost All products I get at Costco (except the pea protein) because you’re going to use a lot of it. Costco does carry a plant based protein powder which tastes good but not as good as the pea protein.
The plant or pea protein pulls it all together. If you happen to run out of it, DO NOT make the smoothie with just Whey alone! Just a warning.
